We leave Cusco early in the morning, between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m., with pickup from our hotel in a comfortable bus. Along the way, we stop to visit the Funerary Towers or Chullpas of Ninamarca, located 3,750 meters above sea level, and make a brief stop in Paucartambo, a charming folkloric town with a colonial bridge. Then, we ascend towards the upper area of ​​Paucartambo until we reach Acjanaco, the highest point of our route, located at 4,000 meters above sea level. Next, we begin our descent through the mysterious cloud forest, characterized by its great variety of flora and fauna, including beautiful orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns. We take a walk to observe the cock-of-the-rock (Rupícola peruviana) in its mating ritual, with the possibility of also seeing trogons (Trogon sp.), quetzals, monkeys and the emblematic spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus), unique in South America. In the afternoon, we arrive at our lodge in Pilcopata, located 550 meters above sea level. It is a typical accommodation in the area, equipped with hot water in the showers and private bathrooms for the comfort of our guests.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we continue our bus ride for 45 minutes until we reach the port of Atalaya. During the journey, we will be able to observe coca plantations, fruit trees, and orchids. Once at the port of Atalaya, we will embark on a motorized boat to navigate the Alto Madre de Dios River. During the boat ride, we will have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of birds, such as herons and kingfishers, as well as the ever-imposing presence of vultures, among which the jungle condor and the jaguar stand out. We will make a stop at Boca Manu (280 m.a.s.l.) and then make a brief stop at the park ranger control at the Limonal Surveillance Post. We will continue our boat trip, and one will begin to appreciate why the Manu is so famous for its wildlife. Along the river banks, we will be able to spot groups of turtles, white caimans, and possibly some capybaras, among other animals. the afternoon, we will arrive at our lodge (250 m.a.s.l.), where we will stay in double beds on platforms. Shortly after, we will organize to go on a hike to visit the lake and the 30-meter observation tower, from where we will have the opportunity to observe giant otters, turtles, and birds. Here in Manu, animals have never been hunted by humans. We will spend the night at the lodge, in double beds with mosquito nets. Showers and bathrooms are provided for the convenience of guests.

Today the group visits Cocha Salvador, which is 30 minutes from Cocha Otorongo. During the day, we explore by walking inside the virgin primary forest. We visit the cocha to paddle quietly on a catamaran, which gives us the opportunity to observe the river otters again and a great variety of exotic birds, such as the sultana cock (Porphyrula martinica) or the agami heron (Agamia). It is also very likely that we will see monkeys of different species; in fact, it is almost certain that we will observe at least 12 species present in the area. Later, we take a walk along the main trails with the guide to learn about the functioning and secrets of the tropical forest. In the afternoon we returned to our hostel, where we spent the night on roofed platforms. The beds are provided with mosquito nets, and we have showers and toilets available. Additionally, an optional night walk is offered for those who wish to participate.

Very early in the morning, the group will visit the macaw clay lick located in the Salvadorcillo ravine. Afterwards, we will return along the Manu River, observing the biodiversity along the way until we reach Boca Manu. We will make a brief visit to Cocha Brasco to observe giant otters. We will spend the night in a lodge that has bathrooms and showers for the convenience of guests.

We continue our return trip by boat along the Alto Madre de Dios River, where we will again have the opportunity to spot a large number of birds and, hopefully, some more animals. This day is tinged with nostalgia as we must say goodbye to our wonderful jungle full of mysteries. Once in Atalaya, we will travel by bus back to Cusco. During the bus ride, we will be able to enjoy once again the impressive Cloud Forest, with its immense variety of flora and fauna. Finally, we will arrive in the city approximately between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., taking with us the memories and emotions experienced in the jungle, and with the hope of returning one day to continue exploring this fascinating place.
