Summary of this experience

The Tambopata 2 days/1 night program begins with arrival in Puerto Maldonado. The first day includes a boat transfer to the lodge, a visit to Monkey Island and a night tour to spot alligators. On the second day, you explore Lake Sandoval, home to a variety of species including piranhas, monkeys and the giant otter. After a boat ride and a typical lunch, the program ends with the return to Puerto Maldonado.

Itinerary

Reception at the airport or land terminal and transfer to the office for the corresponding registrations. Transfer to the port captaincy where we will take the boat for an hour, to our hostel – Welcome meeting, with a refreshing juice based on fruits from our region. Installation in our respective rooms. After lunch, we will visit the “monkey island”, located in front of our Lodge crossing the Madre de Dios River where we will find different species such as the family of capuchin monkeys that live on the island and return to the Lodge. At night we will go in search of white alligators that are generally found on sandbanks, in the Madre de Dios River, for which it will be necessary to bring a flashlight. We will also be able to see the capybara, the largest rodent in the world that can weigh up to 60 kilos. We will return to the lodge, have dinner and rest.
After breakfast we will walk 3 km. In the middle of the dense tropical forest, we head towards Lake Sandoval (habitat of piranhas), one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve, and we will take a rowboat ride where we will see a great variety of birds and monkeys of different species (shansho, cormorant, jacanas, puma heron, vultures, cotomonkey, friar monkey, black machín, pichicos and sloths). Perhaps we will have an encounter with the giant otter family (almost two meters long) that is in danger of extinction and the largest alligators recorded more than 4 meters long, return to the Lodge to enjoy the typical lunch. In the afternoon we will return to the city, transfer to the bus station.

What will we do?

This experience begins with reception in Puerto Maldonado, followed by a boat transfer to the lodge. After lunch, you will visit Monkey Island to observe local species, and at night you will go caiman and capybara watching in the Madre de Dios River. The next day, after a walk through the jungle, you reach Lake Sandoval, where you can enjoy a boat ride to spot birds, monkeys, giant otters and alligators. Finally, we return to Puerto Maldonado.
