This exciting 8-day trip begins in Cusco and culminates in Puerto Maldonado, where we will board our return flight. From the first moment, we will witness the incredible diversity of native animal species, such as cocks-of-the-rocks and the imposing spectacled bears. We will venture into the Manu Reserved Zone, sailing in boats along the Madre de Dios River. During this journey, we will have the opportunity to spot a variety of typical Manu birds, including the majestic jungle condor. At Cocha Otorongo, we will witness aquatic life, spotting giant otters, herons, and more. We will continue our exploration at Cocha Salvador and Cocha Otorongo, where we will spot even more species of birds and monkeys. Then, we will witness the impressive spectacle of the macaw clay licks in Blanquillo, from a platform specially equipped to enjoy this wonderful natural phenomenon.

Itinerary

We depart from Cusco in the early hours of the morning, between 5:30 and 6:00 AM, with pickup from your hotel in our comfortable bus. Along the way, we make a stop at the impressive Funerary Towers, known as Chullpas de Ninamarca, located 3,750 meters above sea level, followed by a short visit to the picturesque folkloric town of Paucartambo, famous for its colonial bridge. We continue ascending towards the upper area of ​​Paucartambo, where we reach the highest point at Acjanaco, located 4,000 meters above sea level. Then, we begin our descent through the mysterious Cloud Forest, which is home to an impressive diversity of flora and fauna, including beautiful orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns. We take a walk to witness the spectacular mating ritual of the Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupícola peruviana), and we also have the possibility of spotting Trogons (Trogón sp.), Quetzals, monkeys and the emblematic Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon, we arrive at our lodge in Pilcopata, located 550 meters above sea level. This typical lodge of the area offers hot water in the showers and a private bathroom for your comfort.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we continue our 45-minute bus ride until we reach the port of Atalaya. During this picturesque journey, we will be able to appreciate the lush coca plantations and fruit trees that line the road. Once at the port, we will embark on a comfortable motorized boat that will take us through the majestic Alto Madre de Dios River. During this exciting journey, we will have the opportunity to spot a varied range of birds, including herons, kingfishers, and, if we are lucky, we will be able to glimpse the imposing figure of the jungle condor, known as the king of vultures (Sarcoramphus papa), as well as the jaguar (Panthera onca). We will make a brief stop at the calm natural hot springs, where we can enjoy medicinal baths to relax and recharge our batteries. If time permits, we will visit the native community of Diamante to admire its typical buildings and explore the wild fruits of the region. As evening falls, we will arrive at the cozy village of Boca Manu, located 280 meters above sea level, where we will stay in a comfortable hostel equipped with showers and bathrooms for our convenience.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we head into the reserve area, where we are given an unparalleled opportunity to explore the amazing biodiversity that Manu has to offer. We make a brief stop at the ranger checkpoint at the Limonal Surveillance Post to secure our entry. Our boat ride continues and it is then that we begin to understand why Manu is so renowned for its wildlife. Along the river banks, groups of turtles, white caimans (Caiman cocodrylus), and perhaps even some ronsocos (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), among other fascinating animals, are revealed to us. the afternoon, we arrive at our lodge, located 250 meters above sea level. Double beds within platforms offer us a comfortable shelter for the night. Then, we prepare for an exciting hike to the lake and the 30-meter-high observation tower, where we have the privileged opportunity to spot the giant river wolves in their natural habitat. It is important to note that in Manu, the animals have never suffered hunting persecution by humans. We will spend the night in our lodge, located on roofed platforms and equipped with double beds with mosquito nets. Shower and bathroom facilities are shared, thus ensuring a comfortable stay for all the adventurers who accompany us.
Today, the group heads to Cocha Salvador, located just 30 minutes from Cocha Otorongo. During the day, we will explore the lush, virgin primary forest on foot, then embark on a catamaran to silently paddle through the cocha. This experience gives us the opportunity to spot giant otters again, as well as a wide variety of unique birds, such as the sultana cock (Porphyrula Martinica) and the agami heron (Agamia), in addition to a high probability of sighting up to twelve different species of monkeys. Later, we will take a walk along the main forest trails accompanied by our guide, who will share with us the functioning and secrets of the tropical ecosystem. At dusk, we will return to our campsite at Cocha Otorongo, where we will spend the night on comfortable roofed platforms, equipped with beds provided with mosquito nets. In addition, we will have shared shower and bathroom facilities for our comfort. Those who wish will have the option to participate in an optional night walk to further explore the beauty of the forest under the moonlight.
After enjoying an exquisite breakfast, we continue our journey through the majestic Manu and Madre de Dios Rivers until we reach the cozy lodge, located very close to the impressive Macaw Collpa. Here, exciting walks await us to explore the various trails that surround the lodge, where we will spend the night in comfortable facilities with bathrooms and showers.
After an exquisite, nutrient-rich breakfast, we will continue our exciting itinerary by boarding a boat to witness the spectacle of the Colorful Macaw Clay Lick. From a platform or a typical catamaran of the area, we will enjoy a fascinating display of birds of various species, as well as the presence of monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans and insects. We will also have the opportunity to spot groups of turtles and, with luck, some capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris). After this unforgettable experience, we will head to Cocha Blanco, where from a catamaran we will be able to spot some otters and turtles, thus completing a day full of natural wonders and exciting adventures.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will board the boat to Puerto Colorado, a journey that will take approximately 3 hours. From there, we will continue our journey by vehicle to Puerto Carlo, then we will take the vehicle that will take us to Puerto Maldonado where we will spend the night.
On our last day after enjoying breakfast we will transfer to the bus station to return to Cusco, the duration of the trip by local bus is 8 hours (the local bus is included in the program). The arrival time in Cusco depends on the bus itinerary. At this point if you wish, you can take a flight to Cusco (45 minutes) or to Lima (2 hours); the flight is not included in the program.
